The original painting, commissioned from Correggio in 1522 by Alberto Pratoneri.
It was presented to the family chapel in the Church of San Prospero of
Reggio Emilia in 1530. After the painting was stolen in 1640 by
Duke Francesco I d'Este and taken to his private gallery in Dresden as od 1746.
